Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Should education funding be available directly to families through a grant, scholarship, or education savings account so that parents can send their children to the school of their choice, including religious schools? N* I believe we should put more money into public schools, and those schools should have everything for every student, including advanced placement classes.
2. Should marijuana be legalized and sold commercially for recreational use? Y* Colorado has been an excellent example of how marijuana can be legalized and monetized. Cannabis has many benefits, some yet unexplored, and I believe it is better to regulate and educate than to punish.
3. Should the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act be amended to include "sexual orientation" and "gender identity," which would require public schools and other public facilities to open up restrooms and locker rooms to members of the opposite sex? Y* Not everyone is born into the body they feel comfortable in. We need compassion for these people and not vitriol.
4. Should Pennsylvania enter into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which would include a new carbon tax on electricity producers? Y* I fully support any and all greenhouse initiatives.
5. Should increases in state government spending be limited to the rate of inflation plus population growth? U
6. Should state taxpayer funding be allowed for elective abortions? U* While I believe all abortion should be legal, I would have to carefully consider whether taxpayer dollars should be spent.
7. Should all voters be required to show identification before voting? N* I believe proper identification should be required for voter registration but not voting.
8. Should striking union members have access to unemployment compensation? U* I am pro union but would have to consider this.
9. Should public schools be prohibited from allowing males who identify as females to compete in girls’ sports? U* I believe we should make transitioning as easy as possible for those involved, however I would need more information before deciding this.
10. Should schools have to post curriculum online for review by parents and taxpayers? N* I believe parents, working with the school, should have a say in the curriculum, but I don’t believe a small handful of parents should dictate what material is available for all students.
11. Should funding for public and state-related universities follow the student rather than go directly to the institution? U* Scholarships for students should follow students but funding for schools should follow the school. But enough funding should be available to provide a solid education for need-based students.
