Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Should education funding be directed to families through a voucher, scholarship, or education savings account so that parents can send their children to the school of their choice, including non-public schools? Y* I am a supporter of our public school system. Are there problems? Absolutely. The problems need addressed. I do, however, believe that a voucher system could be beneficial and useful. A voucher system could allow families that share custody an opportunity for best co-parenting when there is distance between the two, as one example. I do believe that the families that utilize the voucher system should be responsible for their own transportation, since it is a choice, they are making.
2. Should marijuana be legalized for recreational use? Y* It should be legalized and decriminalized. It should be treated similar to alcohol, age requirement, no driving under the influence etc.
3. Should the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act be amended to include “sexual orientation” and “gender identity,” which would require public schools and other public facilities to open up restrooms and locker rooms to members of the opposite sex? U* Inclusivity should be provided at all levels of government and schooling. I do believe that decisions on bathrooms/locker rooms should be up to the local government, i.e a school board. People who identify as one gender or another, should be able to utilize the facility that relates to their identity.
4. Should Pennsylvania enter into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which would include a new carbon tax on electricity producers? Y
5. Should increases in state government spending be limited to the rate of inflation plus population growth? N* We need to decrease spending, not increase it. We need to review the overall budget to cut areas where the money is not needed and apply it to the areas that do need it.
6. Should our state constitution be amended to prevent taxpayer funding for elective abortions? N* Absolutely not. Taxpayer funded means more than just "giving money to planned parenthood", it also means the healthcare for those on state insurance or in the military. We should instead work on legislation that makes birth control available over the counter, fix the foster care system, and bring reform to the adoption process. If we focused our time and energy on those three things, we would see a significant decrease in the number of abortions statewide. So many things are categorized as "abortion services" in medical coding. Services that save women's lives, women who wanted those pregnancies. These services need to be available and should absolutely not be banned.
7. Should all voters be required to show identification before voting? U* If we require licenses/identification for other things, then yes, we should require identification to vote. However, access to obtaining forms of ID can be difficult in certain communities, and that needs to be fixed. If that doesn't get fixed then everyone's voice is not truly being heard, and that is not what our country says it stands for.
8. Should the state reduce police funding to increase funding for social services? Y* I support our police, and while they need additional training and resources, I think one of those resources is more social service help. I also believe by legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana; you will see the police being able to focus on the violent offenders and allow the social services to assist in the mental health situations.
9. Should public schools be prohibited from allowing males who identify as females to compete in girls’ sports? U
10. Should schools have to post curriculum online for review by parents and taxpayers? Y* I do not believe that every assignment or book to read etc. should be posted, but I do believe a basic summary of the curriculum should be posted for parents and taxpayers to review, if they wish too.
11. Should Pennsylvania municipalities be permitted to require a vaccine passport? N* Municipalities should not be permitted to require a vaccine passport, however if a private business would like to set requirements to enter their establishment they can.
12. Should the gasoline tax be permanently reduced? Y* Yes, it should, as it is one of the highest in the country and the money that it brings in is not be used for what is supposed to be used for.
13. Should schools be required to notify parents of any sexually explicit content in books or instructional materials? N* Like stated in another comment, I believe that curriculum should be posted for families and taxpayers to see. If they have any additional questions about books or resources that will be used it should be their responsibility to ask the teacher or administration.
