Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Should education funding be available directly to families through a grant, scholarship, or education savings account so that parents can send their children to the school of their choice, including religious schools? Y
2. Should marijuana be legalized and sold commercially for recreational use? N
3. Should the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act be amended to include "sexual orientation" and "gender identity," which would require public schools and other public facilities to open up restrooms and locker rooms to members of the opposite sex? N
4. Should Pennsylvania enter into the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, which would include a new carbon tax on electricity producers? N
5. Should increases in state government spending be limited to the rate of inflation plus population growth? Y
6. Should state taxpayer funding be allowed for elective abortions? N* Government is meant to protect citizens, not terminate them.
7. Should all voters be required to show identification before voting? Y
8. Should striking union members have access to unemployment compensation? N* Striking is a voluntary action. Unemployment insurance is intended to cover unfortunate instances when jobs disappear, not when workers choose to not work to get something for themselves.
9. Should public schools be prohibited from allowing males who identify as females to compete in girls’ sports? Y* Title IX has been obliterated. This federal legislation was intended to level the playing field for girls in sports. However, the entire concept has been contorted and even defended to permit biological males to play in girls' sports. This is unfair to biological women and dangerous for female athletes. Government should be protecting citizens, not exposing them needlessly to harm or undermining fairness.
10. Should schools have to post curriculum online for review by parents and taxpayers? Y* This is a reasonable expectation for taxpayers who fund schools and parents who pay fees at private institutions. As an educator, I see this as a method to increase parental involvement and interest in school outcomes, not a burden on educators.
11. Should funding for public and state-related universities follow the student rather than go directly to the institution? U* The question is not clear. What funding? Universities directly receive student institution and room and board funds. What funding are we discussing here? Are these monies the Commonwealth uses to fund state schools directly?
