Nick Manganaro

AB in Mathematics from Reed College & SM in Finance from MIT Sloan School

I was born and raised in SE Pennsylvania. I left the state to attend Reed College in Oregon, where I received my bachelor's degree in mathematics. I took a year off from my studies and worked to supplement my funds for tuition. The jobs available to me with that level of education and training were only going to provide a subsistence lifestyle, not a comfortable one, so I determined to double down on my studies and get a job that would pay me enough for my time that I could support a family. After college I worked in and around the power generation industry, comparing generative capacity with conservation, among other projects. I went on to attain my master's degree in finance from MIT's Sloan School. I worked for over 25 years for Wall Street institutions as an analyst, a strategist, a product developer, a portfolio manager, and a risk manager, eventually overseeing roughly $500 billion in assets. During those years I returned to Delaware County, got married, and fathered two children who have successfully launched into careers after college. The also marriage came to an end during those years. I have retired and live simply to shepherd my resources given the risk of inflation to savings, and the vagaries of health in one's later years.

I am running for office for two reasons. I am deeply concerned about the size and trajectory of the outstanding US debt. It has been growing at over $2 trillion per year, which is faster than the economy. The ratio of debt to the GDP is over 120% and rising. If the trend continues, I fear the markets may reject the notion that the US Treasury securities are secure investments. I want to help change the direction of this ratio by supporting policies to encourage economic growth and trim the rate of deficit spending. Many people may feel the same way about the deficits, but I am stepping up to run because I am inspired by one of my ancestors. He signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. Signing the Declaration put his life at risk for the cause of freedom and the creation of this nation. I want to save the Republic the founders bequeathed to us and the freedoms it provides.
